Learning Outcomes
The student knows the operating principles of industrial control systems and can produce automated functions for them, starting from separate actuators.
Student's Workload
Total work load of the course 108 h
Scheduled studies 56 h
Autonomous studies 52 h
The assessment of student’s own learning 1 h is included in contact lessons.
Prerequisites / Recommended Optional Courses
Automation Common Core Theme. Motor Drive Control and Protection.
Contents
The design and programming of functions in a control system using the following actuators, among others: smart motor controls, frequency converters, control valves, solenoid valves and circuit breakers. Setting the reciprocal operating conditions of the devices using locking. Implementing automatic functions with sequences. Utilisation of field buses in device control.
Principles and design rules in the design control room displays. A operation display for each actuator type is designed. The display includes both operations and control. Data collected in the control room is studied using the Script language.
Recommended or Required Reading and Other Learning Resources/Tools
Juha Nieminen: Teollisuuden ohjaus-ja valvontajärjestelmät (handout), laboratory work instructions, assignment materials
Mode of Delivery / Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods
Lectures and guided group work in PC classroom and in the laboratory.
Assessment Criteria
1: The student understands the designs and solutions presented in the contents of the course.
3:The student is able to implement designs that are similar to the model solution.
5:The student is able to make designs independently and implement them using methods learnt during the course.
Assessment Methods
Exam, assignments, laboratory work and laboratory report are assessed.
