Osaamistavoitteet

The main objective is to develop students' reading and writing skills to a level required by the bachelor thesis. Students will be able to read academic texts with good comprehension as well as understand how to read efficiently and critically. Students will be able to express their ideas logically and clearly in texts and essays.

Sisältö

Academic Reading
In the part Academic Reading the aim is to motivate, activate existing knowledge and to point out potential problems when reading. Students read a defined number of books as well as academic journals. Students will analyse texts based on the questions provided for them and make short presentations. Presentations and questions will be discussed in the classroom and in Moodle. Students will get individual feedback on how well they have analysed and understood the texts.

Academic Writing

In the part Academic Writing the aim is that the students learn to present research in written form. The student can produce clear and logic professional business topics in an appropriate style and can summarize information from different academic sources. They will revise grammar, spelling and punctuation. Furthermore, they will get acquainted with the specific features of the academic writing style and acquire a clear idea of the difference between formal and informal text as well as academic and non-academic style. The students will also learn different methods for making a text coherent and logical for the reader. They will complete various exercises and writing assignments with focus on achieving a more academic style in their writing.

Individual reading and writing assignments, presentations, class discussions.

Arviointikriteerit

Assessment means pass/fail. In order to pass the course, the student has to attend the scheduled studies (100 % participation), actively participate in class activities and complete the required assignments.
