Osaamistavoitteet
This course builds on the competencies developed in Clinical Skills Training 2 and advances students’ ability to provide comprehensive, evidence-based nursing care for patients with internal diseases and/or oncological conditions. Students will deepen their clinical decision-making, patient assessment, and care planning skills in different medical contexts. Emphasis is placed on understanding the impact of chronic and acute internal diseases on patients’ daily lives, supporting self-care, and collaborating within multidisciplinary teams to ensure holistic care.
Learning Objectives:
After completing the course, the student
Acts responsibly and professionally in clinical settings, following relevant work culture and guidelines.
Applies advanced principles of patient and occupational safety, aseptic technique, and infection prevention in medical and oncology care.
Demonstrates professional interaction and communication with patients, families, and healthcare teams in different care situations.
Assesses and monitors patients with internal diseases (e.g., cardiovascular, respiratory, neurological, gastroenterological) and/or oncology-related conditions.
When applicable: understands the development of cancer, contributing factors, and common treatment methods, integrating this knowledge into nursing care.
Plans, implements, and evaluates nursing interventions for patients with internal and oncological diseases, considering their functional capacity, resources, and psychosocial needs.
Provides guidance and support for patients and families at different stages of the care pathway.
Recognizes the importance of multidisciplinary collaboration and participates actively in team-based care.
Accurately participates in documenting and reporting patient care.

Advanced patient assessment and monitoring in internal medicine and/or oncology contexts.
Nursing care for patients with internal diseases and/or cancer.
Symptom management and supportive care for chronic and acute conditions.

Medication administration and monitoring in internal medicine and/or oncology care.

Pass:
The student
Demonstrates advanced clinical skills in caring for patients with internal and/or oncological conditions.
Provides safe, ethical, and evidence-based nursing interventions.
Collaborates actively with patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams.
Takes part in documenting and reporting care.
Fail:
The student
Acts unprofessionally or fails to follow guidelines.
Cannot perform required nursing tasks or ensure patient safety.
Does not participate in care planning or patient support.
Fails to document or reflect on practice.

Additional Language-Related Assessment Information:
A separate language agreement will be made with the student, describing methods for supporting Finnish language learning during training.
Language development goals will be defined by an S2 teacher.
Language proficiency level cannot be a reason for failing the practical training period.
