Osaamistavoitteet

This course builds upon the foundational skills acquired in Clinical Skills Training 1 and advances students’ competence in providing holistic, patient-centered care. Students will deepen their ability to interact professionally with patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams, while focusing on the needs of older adults and/or patients requiring palliative and/or end-of-life care. Emphasis is placed on promoting functional capacity and well-being in aging populations, managing symptoms in palliative care, and ensuring ethical and compassionate nursing practice.



Learning Objectives

After completing the course, the student

acts responsibly and professionally in clinical settings, following Finnish work culture and guidelines,

applies advanced principles of patient and occupational safety, aseptic working and infection prevention,

demonstrates professional interaction and communication with patients, families, and colleagues in care situations,

assesses and supports older adults’ health, functional capacity, and resources, promoting independence and quality of life,

recognizes the effects of aging and understands key concepts and values of palliative and end-of-life care,

identifies signs of approaching death and gains knowledge in the physical symptom management and psychosocial support of the patient,

familiarizes in creating end-of-life care plans in collaboration with patients, families, and healthcare teams,

participates in care documentation and reporting.

Professional interaction and communication in gerontological and palliative contexts.

Assessment and maintenance of functional capacity and resources for older adults.

Nutrition, physical activity, and pain management for aging patients.

Principles and values of palliative care integrated into nursing practice and/or care planning and symptom management for terminally ill patients.

Safe and aseptic techniques in care situations.

Basic concepts of medication, dosage forms, and administration routes.

Structured documentation and ethical considerations.

Reflection and evaluation of care outcomes.

Arviointikriteerit

Pass:
The student

Demonstrates skills in caring for older adults and palliative patients.

Participates and observes safe and ethical nursing interventions.

Collaborates effectively with patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams.

Participates in observing, documenting and reporting the patient’s care and wellbeing.



Fail:
The student

Acts unprofessionally or fails to follow guidelines.

Cannot perform required nursing tasks or ensure patient safety.

Does not participate in care planning or symptom management.

Fails to participate in documentation or reflection of practice.

Additional Language-Related Assessment Information

A separate language agreement will be made with the student, describing, among other things, the methods for supporting Finnish language learning during the training.

The goals for the student’s language development will be defined by an S2 (Finnish as a second language) teacher. Student’s language proficiency level cannot be a reason for failing the practical training period.
