Osaamistavoitteet
Understand the main medication principles for common national diseases.
Know mechanisms of action of commonly used drugs and their adverse and interaction effects.
Comply with regulations guiding medication and its implementation.
Plan, implement, evaluate, and document patient medication and fluid therapy as well as blood transfusion.
Recognize methods for preventing and monitoring adverse events related to medication.
Safely implement patient medication and fluid therapy and provide appropriate patient guidance.
Perform medication dosage calculations accurately.

Basic Competence in Medication (4 ECTS).
Sisältö
Drugs and pharmaceutical preparations and their clinical information. Pharmaceutical data of medicines. Promoting patient safety in medication administration. Monitoring and guidance of medication. Planning, implementation, evaluation, and documentation of medication therapy. Identifying and managing risk situations related to medication. Documentation of adverse events. Parenteral fluid therapy and blood transfusion and related regulations. Dosage calculations, infusion rate calculations, energy requirement determination, preparation and dilution of new solutions.
Clinical practice: Peripheral cannula insertion, initiation of intravenous medication, fluid therapy, and blood transfusion. Monitoring patient condition and providing guidance. Preparation of intravenous injections and infusions with aseptic techniques.
