Osaamistavoitteet
The student deepens their understanding of the situational nature of language use in healthcare. They learn to adapt their language according to context and act as an active participant in interactions. The student can express opinions and justify them in various ways. They develop confidence in communicating in Finnish in diverse healthcare situations and in conveying information both orally and in writing.
The student will acquire and consolidate the oral and written skills in Finnish as a second language required by the Universities of Applied Sciences Act (1129/2014, Section 7) for performing tasks in their own professional field.
After completing the course, students will:
communicate clearly and fluently in familiar situations and routine work tasks
understand texts and speech on everyday and job-related topics
discuss personal interests and current affairs, express opinions, agreement, and disagreement
guide and interact with patients in various nursing situations using appropriate terminology
write simple connected texts, descriptions, and short professional documents
apply key grammatical structures
narrate experiences and events and give reasons for opinions and plans

Sisältö
The course focuses on practicing everyday oral and written interactions in healthcare settings, expanding professional vocabulary, and mastering essential grammatical skills and structures required in different nursing contexts. Students practice expressing and justifying opinions and deliver a short oral presentation related to healthcare. The course also deepens competence in patient guidance situations.

Arviointikriteerit
Grades are based on participation, assignments, and ability to communicate in nursing and everyday contexts:
Satisfactory (1–2): Can manage basic communication in everyday and healthcare contexts; frequent errors affect fluency.
Good (3–4): Communicates effectively in familiar situations; writes coherent texts; uses vocabulary and grammar with minor inaccuracies.
Excellent (5): Handles varied and demanding interactions confidently; writes clear, detailed texts; uses structures and terminology accurately; speech is fluent and natural.
