Osaamistavoitteet
This course strengthens Finnish language skills for everyday communication and professional nursing contexts. Students will learn to interact confidently in routine healthcare situations, understand common healthcare texts, and apply Finnish in work-life and study-related settings.
Starting level: A2.1 (CEFR)
Target level: A2.2. (CEFR)
Prerequisites: Finnish language skills at A2.1 level (e.g., completion of Finnish 1–2 or equivalent); Finnish for Nursing Basics 1-2
By the end of the course, students will be able to:
Communicate orally in essential nursing situations and routine procedures.
Participate in simple conversations in familiar everyday and work-related contexts.
Understand and use healthcare-related phrases and vocabulary.
Read and comprehend short healthcare texts (e.g., instructions, patient notes) and everyday messages.
Write short messages and reports related to nursing tasks and personal topics.
Apply key grammatical structures
Gain confidence in Finnish communication in clinical and social settings.

Healthcare Communication: Patient interaction, giving instructions, discussing basic care.
Vocabulary: Nursing terminology and common phrases for routine tasks.
Grammar: Past tense, object usage, local cases, verb rections, plural forms, sentence linking.
Reading & Writing: Patient notes, care instructions, short reports, everyday texts.
Listening & Speaking: Role-play of nursing scenarios and everyday dialogues.
Culture: Spoken Finnish and cultural insights.

Arviointikriteerit
Grades are based on participation, assignments, and ability to communicate in nursing and everyday contexts:
Satisfactory (1–2): Can manage simple healthcare and everyday communication; limited fluency and accuracy.
Good (3–4): Communicates effectively in routine nursing and everyday situations; applies grammar and vocabulary correctly; writes short texts.
Excellent (5): Handles professional and social interactions confidently; writes clear and accurate texts; uses grammar and vocabulary fluently.
