Osaamistavoitteet
The student will recognise the various registers of language, and can write appropriate texts and discuss various topics within engineering and working life. The student will learn interaction skills and is familiar with oral communication situations in working life.

Sisältö
Scientific writing and its characteristics, various documents related to engineering and working life (e.g. reports, abstracts, thesis, CV and application, instructions), oral communication situations in working life (meetings, negotiations, presentations). Ethical use of AI in writing.

Oral and written exercises, individual, pair and group workshops.
Arviointikriteerit
Grade 5: The student knows and uses the registers of language correctly and is able to give unified, detailed and effective presentation, as well as produce well-structured and stylistically and grammatically correct technical texts.
Grade 3-4: The student recognises the styles and registers of language and can use them correctly in most situations. The student can give a clear and detailed presentation. The student can also produce technical texts which are mostly correct in style and grammar.
Grade 1-2: The student knows of the language styles and registers but does not always use them correctly. The student is able to give a presentation in good enough English but has deficiencies in the structure and format of the presentation. The student can produce technical documents but with difficulties.

Microexams, speaking exams, workshops. Active participation in contact teaching produces extra points.
