Osaamistavoitteet

After the course, the student can install and use operating systems which are relevant for the IT industry. The student understands and recognizes the key components of operating systems and is able to configure them. Virtualization, networking and security as implemented in the relevant operating systems is understood, the student can create such solutions using both physical hardware and virtual solutions.

Sisältö

The concept of an operating system (OS). Installation in virtual machines combined with other options (for example containers) as necessary. Configuration tools in the used OSes.

Use of an OS through both the command line and a graphical user interface. File systems, networking tools and their usage. Domain-based user authentication and other services.

Process & memory management, scripting (automation) of tasks. The concept of scheduling.

The needs of security are considered when implementing services and other solutions.

Arviointikriteerit

Satisfactory (grade 1-2):

• The student can describe the basic components and functions of the used operating systems.
• The student demonstrates limited ability to perform system-level tasks in the used operating systems or manage basic Domain components.
• Practical exercises are incomplete or partially correct.

Good (grades 3-4):

• The student can explain and apply key OS concepts, such as process scheduling, memory management, and file systems.
• The student successfully completes most practical exercises with moderate guidance.
• The student demonstrates a good understanding of Domain and basic networking concepts.

Excellent (grade 5):

• The student demonstrates a deep understanding of OS components and can independently analyze and solve complex tasks.
• The student completes practical exercises and projects with exceptional quality and minimal guidance.
• The student can manage and configure a fully functional Domain environment.
