Osaamistavoitteet

After the course the student will be able to deal with the logic expression in a systematic way and is able to make logical reasoning, the student is able to design and analyze combinatorial and sequential logic, and is able to make conversions between different number systems. In addition, student is able to describe the implementation of digital circuits and is able to use component data sheets. Student will learn to design simple logic circuits. Student learns to know the key structures, features and functions of different types of computer systems. After completing the course the student will understand the number system and logical connections used in digital technology operations and knows how to deal with the component data sheet information about the activities of the components.

135 h, which contains 70 h of scheduled contact studies.
The assessment of student’s own learning 1 h is included in contact lessons.

Sisältö

Logical reasoning in general. Number systems, binary arithmetic, codes and parity. Boolean algebra, Karnaugh map. The gates, combinational and sequential functions. Sequential structures. Digital components and their electrical properties. Basic circuit design and simulation. Digital technology and energy consumption. In laboratory FPGA development platforms and simulators. Boolean algebra study carried out in a graphical programming language (eg. The logic gates, counters) as well as introduce to the basics of the VHDL language. The student writes a report on the laboratory work.
