Osaamistavoitteet
The course provides the students with the basic theories and practical understanding of the most common semiconductor devices. First a short overview of DC circuits is introduced followed by a general description of the atomic structure and the fundamentals of semi-conductor physics. Diodes are then studied in more details. First the diode is presented as ideal devices then with a more realistic approach followed by some practical circuits. Zener diode and its use in real applications are also discussed. Introduction to the BJT (Bipolar Junction Transistor), FET (Field Effect Transistor) as well as OP (Operational Amplifiers) is given with emphasis on their functional operations rather than their applications and use in electronic design. More about these devices will be covered in further courses of electronics.
The Laboratory part of the course gives an introduction to the laboratory procedures, instrumentation and measurements techniques, use of simulation programs like PSPICE, electronics and electrical circuit analysis, implementation and testing. The students will learn to work in teams, will be able to use datasheets and learn to communicate technical information in written and oral forms. Finally, students will have the opportunity to design and implement a small electronic project.
