Osaamistavoitteet
Since July 2006 the KVARKEN Archipelago was included as the first Natural Heritage Site in Finland on UNESCO World Heritage List. This extraordinary archipelago was released about 10 000 years ago under the inland ice. When the earth crust no longer was pressed down by the inland ice it started to rise resulting a rear mosaic environment of Kvarken archipelago. This unique historical process is the basis for its rich environmental cultures, its natural amenities, offering today an option for a variety of leisure time activities. The status of the Unesco Natural Heritage is a challenge for its future development line dealing both with the ecology of the landscape, source of livelihood and cultural activities.
Learning objectives: The aim of this course is to study and research the qualities and characteristics of this unique next door natural heritage. Students are offered an opportunity to study both the environmental and cultural values of Kvarken archipelago. Each student will innovate and create own ideas in accordance of their personal and professional interest for further development of the attractiveness and potential of this attractive natural tourism destination.
Sisältö
Basic knowledge of UNESCO´s world heritage list and destinations in Finland and world wide. Two guided excursions to archipelago and exhibitions in Museum of Ostrobothnia (Terranova and Geopark). The students will compile an individual course portfolio (personal story line description on their individual studies during the course) which will be presented and shared in the final seminar Kvarken the special heritage for You and me.
Opetusmuoto / Opetusmenetelmät
Lectures, practical individual and group work for personal portfolios, field studies and creative research work, guided visits to the archipelago and museum exhibitions, sharing the knowledge in seminars, innovating new ideas for further development of the natural tourism destination.
Arviointimenetelmät
Active participation, teamwork, individual work for personal course portfolio. Participation to the guided excursions is required. Presentation of the portfolio and sharing new ideas in the final seminar. Numeric grading.
