Osaamistavoitteet

After completing the course, the student will be able to:
• Describe the basic operating principles of different energy production methods
• Explain the fundamentals of energy transmission and storage
• Identify production cost factors and engage in related discussions
• Name and explain the function and principles of key power plant components
• Interpret simple process flow diagrams

The assessment of students’ own learning for 1 h is included in contact lessons.

Edeltävät opinnot / Suositellut valinnaiset opinnot

The student must have completed occupational and electrical safety training.
Basic knowledge of physics, chemistry, and mathematics is required, as well as the ability to use standard software (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and write laboratory reports.

Sisältö

This introductory-level course is part of the basic and professional studies in energy and environmental engineering. It is designed especially for first- and second-year engineering students. The course provides an overview of the key processes and components in power generation systems, focusing on electricity-producing plants. Topics include water and thermal processes, basic process diagrams, and the operational principles of essential plant components. Students will also have the opportunity to explore laboratory environments related to energy technology.

Contact teaching, lectures, exercises, laboratory work, and possible visits to energy technology laboratories.

Arviointikriteerit

Grade 1 - 2 (Pass): Student recognizes the key concepts and understands basic processes
Grade 3 - 4 (Good): Student can apply learned content in practical examples at a basic level
Grade 5 (Excellent): Student demonstrates deep understanding and can integrate various content areas into a coherent whole

Arviointimenetelmät

Classroom exercises and Moodle tasks, independent assignments, possible exam, and laboratory work with related reports.
