Learning Outcomes

The student will learn concepts of Web services technology and master developing Web services using different technologies like XML-RPC and SOAP. During the course student will learn how to write multitier client-server applications, which communicate with each other over Internet. The course divides to two main parts: XML-RPC and SOAP. Student will learn how to write Web services, which are capable of carrying out various functionalities, like file download and upload and database communication. Student will also learn to write client applications with graphical user interface, which are capable of communicating with the Web service and handle the incoming and outgoing data. Student will also learn new techniques for handling XML documents and applying security on Web services.

Student's Workload

135 h, which contains 70 h of scheduled contact studies.
The assessment of student’s own learning 1 h is included in contact lessons.

Object Oriented Programming.

XML-RPC, SOAP, XML documents, file handling, database programming, Web service security and authentication, HTTP, HTTPS.

Assessment Criteria

Grade 5: The student understands most (around 90 %) course concepts and is capable of developing applications with advanced features.
Grade 3: The student understands a considerable portion (around 60 %) of course concepts and is capable of developing applications with moderate number of functions.
Grade 1: The student understands basic (around 40 %) course concepts and is capable of developing simple applications.
