Learning Outcomes
The objective of the course is to get students familiar with Linux operating system, its structure and functionality. After the course, students must have a good knowledge of most used commands in Linux operating system, feel comfortable to work under Linux operating system, be able to handle files, processes and write shell scripts. The contents of the course will be the followings: structure of Linux operating system, Linux commands, file handling and processing, links, input/ouput redirection, filters and shell scripts.
Student's Workload
The total amount of student's work is 81 h, which contains 42 h of contact studies in the youth program and 30 h of contact studies in the adult program. The remaining time is used for individual studies.
The assessment of student’s own learning 1 h is included in contact lessons.

Contents
Goal of the course is to introduce Linux operating system to students and make them understand basic Linux commands and write shell scripts in Linux Bash language.

Lectures 21 h, assignments 40 h and a project work 20 h.
Assessment Criteria
Grade 5: Can make shell scripts with signals.
Grade 3: Can administrate a Linux system.
Grade 1: Can install and use Linux with graphical user interface and terminal.
Assessment Methods
Assignments 50 %, Project work 20 % and an examination 30 %.
