Learning Outcomes

The student will gain a better understanding of the theory of telecommunications engineering through practical laboratory exercises. On the course measurements of basic phenomena in telecommunications will be performed and analyzed.

108 h, containing 40 h of contact studies.
The assessment of student’s own learning 1 h is included in contact lessons.

Contents

Exercises on the areas covered by Basics of Telecommunications and Basics of Computer Networks. Modulation methods, line coding, PCM. Optical fibres and data transmission, Spectrum analyser as a tool in studying signals and modulation methods. Properties of antennas and digital TV. Local Area Networks. Serial transmission. ADSL.

Mode of Delivery / Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

Laboratory exercises in groups of three to four students.

Assessment Criteria

1: The student understands basic (around 40 %) course concepts and is capable of developing simple applications.
3: The student understands a considerable portion (around 60 %) of course concepts and is capable of developing applications with moderate number of functions.
5: The student understands most (around 90 %) course concepts and is capable of developing applications with advanced features.
