Learning Outcomes

The student will acquire knowledge of different scientific philosophies and methods for searching and gathering information. The student understands the importance of a methodical and scientific way of working. The student can implement different methods when writing the final thesis.
The student should choose the topic for his/her thesis. During the study unit the student will become familiar with his/her own topic and get to know how the work should be planned and documented. The student will also get quidance in choosing the topic and writing the right language of the thesis.

The assesment of student's own learning 1 h is included in contact lessons.

Contents

The relations between knowledge, science and research/development work. Philosophical approaches to research. Research ethics. Information searching and processing (includes also the subject searching procedures taught by the librarian). Forming of the theoretical framework of an empirical study/development work. Writing of a study plan/development work plan. Data collection methods. Implementation of a project and work procedures.

Refreshing the instructions for thesis. Making a schedule and the planning of a personal project for final thesis. The study unit gives support in proceeding with the work if already initiated.

The course content takes into account the region's businesses in the energy sector, as well as the specific features of international trade.

Assessment Methods

Assignments in information seeking and analysing research reports. Active participation in seminars, a small-scale report of the final thesis. Pass / fale.
