Learning Outcomes

The student develops his/her oral and writing English skills for both common and professional use. The student also learns the business correspondence required in contacts with foreign companies.

The student is able to use different tools for communicating internationally and understands the effect of communication on various work-related tasks. The student is able to use the langauge and terminology of international business. In addition the student understands cultural diffrences.

The student gets to know the possibilities that the VAMK UAS offers to go abroad as an exchange student and the student has opportunities to get to know incoming exchange from various countries.

80 hrs of which 40 hrs in the classroom and 40 hrs independently

Contents

Video conferencing, interviews and/or presentations also with people outside the group when possible on current topics. Material on the effects of culture on international communcation in English. The possibilities of studying abroad are examined.

Provided by the teacher and created by the student as instructed.

Communication and written tasks. Background reading.

Assessment Criteria

Grade 5 Language skills: very fluent, correct pronunciation and grammar, advanced and varied vocabulary, attention to detail in spoken and written work Working habits:all assigments completed excellently and on time, very active participation
Grade3 Language skills: can mostly be understood without difficulty, some typical pronuciation mistakes, some grammar errors, use of professional vocabulary and language register Working habits: most of the assignements completed well and on time and acitve participation
Grade1 Language skills: diffiucult to follow, pronunciation difficult to understand, grammar problems Working habits: assignments missing, irregular attendance and participation, no interest in studying.
Note that the grade is a combination of language and communication skills and the effort to develop these together with culture skills. Note that the course grade is the combination of language and communication skills together with the effort todevelop these skills as well as culture skills.
