Learning Outcomes
Having completed the course, the student recognises the special characteriscs of industrial and power plant electrical systems and has formes a picture of their similarity but also of differences. The student knows how to dimension the main components of an electrical network and understands the economical signifinance. The student has skills to utilise the implementation models of distributed energy production and utilise simulation in the design thereof. The student understands documents related to industrial electrification projects and perceives the principles of standards in the design work.
Student's Workload
135 hrs, of which in addition to lectures 16 hrs for the assignment of dimensioning an industrial network. Two hours for the exam.
Prerequisites / Recommended Optional Courses
MATLAB and Simulink, Motor Drive Control and Protection.
Contents
The general structure of industrial and power plant network, components and economical effects in the selection thereof. Short-circuit calculations and possibilities to retrict short-circuit currents, network earthing methods and equiment. Generation of current harmonics, and their effects and reduction methods. Dimensioning of absorbing circuits used in industry. The use of calculation and simulation software in designing the structure of an industrial network, an assignment included. Generator magnetisation systems and protection in power plants and in distributed energy production. Typical power electronics applications in distributed energy production, a simulation exercise included. As for typical consumers, an example of dimensioning the most common industrial drives, i.e. pump and blower drives. Definition of system specifications and typical design documentation.
