Learning Outcomes
The student obtains a general idea of power systems in industry and power plants and understands their similarity. The student knows the special characteristics of a power network and can rate the main components of the network and understands the economic significance of the selection. The student understands the documents related to a industrial electrification project. The student is introduced to various models of wind power station.
Student's Workload
Total work load of the course 107 h.
Prerequisites / Recommended Optional Courses
Common core themes in Utilisation of Electrical Energy and Power Distribution.
Contents
General structure of industrial and power plant networks. Economic consideration of component selection. Limitation of short circuit calculation and short circuit current in the power network. Earthing methods and equipment. Generator magnatisation systems and generator protection. Generation, impact and reduction of overcurrent surges. Rating of absorbing circuits. Rating of a drive for a typical industrial drive, such as pump or fan. Determining the system specifications and study of typical documents. Technology used in wind power stations based on various generator and converter applications. Short circuit calculation and over current impact are studied using typical calculation and simulation tools for industrial networks.
