Learning Outcomes

In the Power Distribution Automation project the student will learn to apply the knowledge and skills acquired, as well to seek information independently. The objective is to be able to design a certain building automation, security and communication system and to choose the suitable components. In addition, the student should be able to design and program the most essential control room displays for a remore control system.

Student's Workload

Total work load 54 hours,
of which scheduled 28 hours
autonomous studies 26 hours.
The assessment of student’s own learning 1 h is included in contact lessons.

Prerequisites / Recommended Optional Courses

Distribution Automation, Security and Communication Systems in Buildings, Building Automation.

Contents

The following skills and knowledge learnt in the study uniti are required in the project:
- Design of fire alarm, intruder alarm and acces control systems and selection of components for a substaion building
- Calculation and selection of components for damping the antenna system in a substation remote control system
- Design and implementation of a layout for a substation remote control system

Learning material used in the study units and project-related learning material

Mode of Delivery / Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

Project management, group work and progressive inquiry.

Assessment Criteria

1: The student is able, with guidance, to utilize the methods learnt during the study unit.
3: The student is able to utilize the methods learnt during the study unit independently.
5: The student is able to utilize the methods learnt during the study unit independently and combine the knowledge with previously learnt in various contexts.

Assessment Methods

The assessment is based on the propject work and project report which incldes necessary drawings, slection criteri, list of devices, calculations and layout of the remote control system.
