The student understands the basic operation principles of electric power generation, power transmission and power distribution. The student knows the basics of the phenomena related to electrical networks. The student knows the calculation methods needed in analysing the power grids.

Student's Workload

Total work load of the course 82 h
Scheduled studies 50 h
Autonomous studies 32 h

Prerequisites / Recommended Optional Courses

Calculation Methods of Circuits and Electricity Transmission

Contents

The student is introduced to the structure of electric power system, the basic properties of power plants and generation and power transmission and power distribution network. The student calculates the voltage drop in a network and the loading capacity of cable in different installation conditions. The fault current calculations form a significant part of the course. With the help of PC exercises the student understands the possibilities given by modern calculation tools.
