The topic is chosen and approved during the planning and initiation phase of the thesis. The project or research plan, as well as a schedule, are finalized. The first version of the thesis is submitted, including an introduction, a preliminary table of contents, and some theoretical framework. In the theses related to the social and healthcare sector, research permits are sought and obtained.
