Learning Outcomes

The student is able to:
- identify the principles and values of palliative nursing and hospice care
- identify the needs of palliative and hospice care
- meet the ones who can´t be cured
- work as a nurse in palliative or hospice care
- make the care plan for the rest of the life cooperating with the patient, his/her intimates, the doctor and other multiprofessional team
- make a living will
- identify juridical basis of palliative and hospice care
- put into practice compassionate palliative care and hospice care (pain, suffering, breathing symptoms, gastroenteral symptons, mouth symptons, dehydration, anorexia, fatigue, itch, exudation, delirium,anxiety and depression)
- meet and take care of dying patient and his/her intimates
- know and anticipate the changes of communication caused by the sickness
- give existential and psychological support
- identify the signs of upcoming death
- take care of the patient´s needs
- meet the patient´s intimates and support them
- identify the need of mental help and organize it

Student's Workload

Total work load of the course: 52 h
- of which scheduled studies 22 h
- of which autonomous studies 30 h.
The assesment of student's own learning 1 h is included in contact lessons.

Contents

The principles of palliative nursing. Nursing according to the needs of the patients and his/her family.

Scheduled studies 22 h, autonomous studies 30 h.

Assessment Criteria

Grade 1:
The student is able to plan and fulfill palliative nursing concerning most of the patient's needs and to discuss with the family
Grade 3:
The student is able to plan and fulfill palliative nursing according to the needs of the patient as well as to discuss with the family
Grade 5:
The student is able to plan and fulfill palliative nursing according to the needs of the patient as well as to support the family
