Learning Outcomes

This course provides an 11-week practical training period in patient/client care, designed to consolidate and deepen the student’s professional competence across multiple areas of nursing. The training emphasizes independent responsibility, ethical practice, and evidence-based decision-making in diverse clinical environments. Students will strengthen their ability to work collaboratively, apply advanced clinical skills, and promote health and patient safety. The course also includes a general nurse competence exam.

Professional, Ethical, and Interaction Competence

Works according to nursing values, ethical principles, and healthcare legislation.

Acts collegially, gives and receives feedback constructively, and applies it in teamwork.

Develops and evaluates personal competence and takes responsibility for learning and work independently.

Communicates respectfully and professionally with patients/clients of different ages and cultural backgrounds.

Information Technology, Documentation, and Reporting

Uses healthcare electronic databases and reporting tools.

Complies with data protection and security requirements in social and healthcare.

Documents nursing care using structured documentation as part of the nursing process.

Clinical and Decision-Making Competence

Works according to the nursing process: assesses care needs, plans, implements, and evaluates high-quality care.

Uses health science databases, clinical guidelines, and organizational instructions to support evidence-based decisions.

Masters essential nursing procedures and diagnostic tests.

Applies infection prevention principles and aseptic techniques.

Recognizes and responds to changes in patient condition (e.g., vital signs, pain).

Administers safe medication and fluid therapy via various routes and understands the unit’s medication plan.

Promotes patient safety through adherence to safety principles (device safety, medication safety, reporting adverse events).

Guidance and Teaching Competence

Assesses patient/family guidance needs and resources and supports adherence to care.

Plans, implements, and evaluates individual and group guidance in collaboration with patients and professionals.

Applies patient-centered teaching and guidance methods and understands care pathways and service coordination.

Health Promotion Competence

Anticipates and identifies health needs and risks for patients and their environment.

Acts preventively regarding diseases and health challenges.

Supports patient functional capacity and self-care using evidence-based methods.

Leadership and Professionalism

Prioritizes tasks flexibly according to the situation.

Works cost-effectively and according to sustainable development principles.

Evaluates care quality to improve patient care and personal performance.

11 weeks of practical training in patient/client care.

Application of professional ethics and legislation in clinical practice.

Medication safety and administration.

Patient education and health promotion strategies.

Leadership and teamwork in nursing practice.

Preparation for the Nurse's core competences national exam (180 ECTS).

Assessment Criteria

Pass/Fail Criteria:

Practical training tasks and/or learning diary: Pass/Fail.

Possible paid internship as a nurse substitute must be agreed in advance; objectives, hours, and evaluation recorded in Workseed, with feedback discussion at the workplace.

Completion of the Nurse's core competences national exam under supervision:

Theory test: minimum 65% correct (Pass).

Medication calculation test: 100% correct (Pass).
