Contents

Basics of patient care, clinical nursing skills practice, patient safety, legislation guiding nursing, pain assessment methods, nursing planning and documentation according to the FinCC classification, supporting patient mobility.

Practice session contents: Introduction to sluice room and instrument maintenance; bed-making; bed bath; basic care; feeding the patient; blood glucose monitoring; insertion of nasogastric tube, PEG; measuring blood pressure, pulse, and temperature; catheterization; urine sample collection and analysis; isolation labs; medication spray; positioning to ease breathing / oxygen administration; suctioning mucus from upper airways; possible revisions; nursing documentation in every practice session.

Assessment Criteria

Level 5:

Act as needed in interaction with other professional groups and plan, implement, and evaluate patient care individually, safely, and cost-effectively.

Prepare a comprehensive care plan, provide holistic patient care, and critically evaluate the care provided.

Use all phases of the nursing process when documenting patient data in the patient information system.

Apply principles of aseptic working.

Level 3:

Interact naturally with nurses and patients and plan patient care individually, safely, and cost-effectively.

Prepare an individual care plan and implement and evaluate patient care.

Describe the phases of the nursing process with examples and document patient data accordingly in the patient information system.

Apply principles of aseptic working.

Level 1:

Collaborate with other professional groups to provide patient care individually, safely, and cost-effectively.

Prepare a care plan, implement, and evaluate patient care.

Explain the phases of the nursing process and record patient data in the patient information system.

Understand principles of aseptic working.

Assessment Methods

Exam, numerical grading 0–5. 100% attendance required in workshops.
