Learning Objectives

The student:

- Recognizes changes related to the health and illnesses of children and adolescents and understands their impact on the overall well-being of the family.
- Is familiar with the specific characteristics of childhood and adolescent diseases.
- Is able to apply the principles of pediatric and adolescent nursing and understands the significance of family-centered guidance and counseling.
-Masters the most common diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in pediatric and adolescent nursing.
- Understands the specific aspects of pediatric and adolescent pharmacotherapy and drug calculation.
-Is familiar with the most common childhood and adolescent diseases and their underlying causes.
- Is able to utilize up-to-date, evidence-based information in pediatric and adolescent nursing.
- Is able to assess the need for care under guidance and plan, implement, and evaluate pediatric nursing care using evidence-based information.

Student's Workload

Total Student Workload: 135 hours, of which:
Guided in-person teaching: 24 hours + 13h/13h A/B division for workshops.
Online studies: 27 hours (Pediatrics).

Mode of Delivery / Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

The teaching is conducted through lectures, guided exercises, simulations, and online-supported teaching, including pediatrics (medical lectures).

Level 1
The student:
- Recognizes evidence-based information in pediatric and adolescent nursing as well as childhood diseases, and understands the specific characteristics and nursing process in this field.
- Recognizes the main aspects of growth, development, and care of children of different ages, as well as forms of family support.
- Accurately performs medication calculations and understands the basics of pediatric medication and fluid therapy.
- Recognizes changes in a child’s condition in the most common childhood diseases and understands the impact of the child's illness on the family’s daily life.
- Recognizes the importance of guidance and play as methods in pediatric and adolescent nursing.
- Recognizes the significance of ethical principles in pediatric and family nursing.
- Recognizes their own interaction skills in pediatric and adolescent nursing and in the learning environment.

Level 3
The student:
- Knows the specific characteristics of pediatric and adolescent nursing and is able to apply evidence-based information to the
nursing process.
- Is able to assess the main aspects of growth, development, and care of children of different ages, as well as family support
needs.
- Accurately performs medication calculations and has a good understanding of pediatric medication and fluid therapy.
- Recognizes changes in a child’s condition in the most common childhood diseases and is able to describe methods for assistance and observation, justifying their choices.
- Understands the impact of a child’s illness on the family’s daily life.
- Is able to apply ethical principles in pediatric and family nursing.
- Understands the significance of guidance and is able to guide in pediatric and adolescent nursing.
- Understands the importance of play in the nursing of children of different ages.
- Is able to cooperate responsibly and constructively and is ready to develop their interaction skills in pediatric and adolescent nursing and in the learning environment.

Level 5
The student:
- Is able to comprehensively utilize the knowledge base of pediatric and adolescent nursing as well as childhood diseases.
- Analyzes evidence-based information in pediatric and adolescent nursing and is able to apply the nursing process in an individual- and family-centered manner.
- Understands changes in a child’s condition in the most common childhood diseases and is able to seek and justify various approaches to nursing care.
- Accurately performs medication calculations and has a thorough understanding of pediatric medication and fluid therapy.
- Is able to creatively apply ethical principles in pediatric and adolescent nursing.
- Is able to guide client-centered pediatric and adolescent nursing.
- Understands the significance of play in the nursing of children of different ages and is able to apply this knowledge in practice.
- Is able to cooperate responsibly and constructively, and develops both their own and the group’s interaction skills in pediatric and adolescent nursing and in the learning environment.

Assessment Methods

Exams and Numerical Assessment 0-5

The exam includes sections on pediatric and adolescent nursing, pediatric medication calculations, and pediatrics.

Mandatory (100%) attendance in workshops.

Student feedback on the course via Spark is encouraged.

Work Placement

The course must be completed before the practical training in pediatric and adolescent nursing, as well as geriatric nursing, and not earlier.
