Learning Outcomes

Student
-is familiar with intensive care environment and ensures the safety of care
works as a part of a multidisciplinary team
-is familiar with special features and methods of treatment in the intensive care
-is familiar with basics of examination and care of critically ill patient
-knows how to evaluate and treat nursing care problems concerning a critically ill patient
-is familiar whit examination, monitoring and care equipment used in an intensive care setting and understands how to interpret the information correctly
-takes into consideration the patient´s family and their needs
-is familiar with the basic medications and fluid therapy used

Contents
-the definition of intensive care. The role and competency of a intensive care nurse
obseravation and care of the critically ill patient (includes)
-cardiovascular observation and care; invasive methods
-respiratory; respiratory failure, ventilator care
-observation and care of a neurological patient
-observation and care of a gastrointestinal patient
-severe infections
-medication, fluid therapy, nutrition, drug calculations
-basic care and rehabilitation
-the encounter and support of the patient´s family. The consideration of thei needs
-the ethics of intensive care
