Learning Outcomes
The student
- professionally masters the concepts / definitions of disability and disability and the most common manifestations
- becomes acquainted with the methods and key legislation of the treatment and rehabilitation of disabled people
- is able to work with people with disabilities and their families in multi-professional cooperation

Contents
Developmental disability and more common developmental disabilities. Neurological, linguistic and developmental disorders. Sensory hearing and vision impairments.
Legislation related to rehabilitation. Forms of rehabilitation and assessment of functional capacity.
Regional Impact
The student is familiar with the principles of the Finnish disability policy which are equality, participation and accessibility (the Disability Services Act).
Internationality
The student understands the global challenges for the services and knows the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

Mode of Delivery / Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods
Lecture teaching, small group assignments. Written assignment or exam.
Assessment Criteria
Grade 1-2: The student knows the most important forms of the support from the society for the disabled and the chronically ill, and recognizes their need for support in the society.
Grade 3-4: The student knows how to apply his knowledge of the benefits of the disabled into client cases. The student knows how to apply the principles of unrestrictedness and involution in a practical level.
Grade 5: The student has views on the social discussion concerning disability and he is able to see the effect of different research trends on the social discussion concerning disability.
