Learning Outcomes

The student is familiar with the multiple facilities of gerontologic service and care and knows how the clients are chosen to them. The student is able to make and update a care and service plan. The student knows the responsibilities of the head nurse, understands the meaning of leadership and multiprofessional co-operation. The student can use the key clinical methods of treatment and rehabilitation individually with each patient. The student carries out pharmacotherapy under supervision and follows the effects of pharmacotherapy. The student can apply theory knowledge in practical care settings. The student acts ethically in the care relation and in the work community. The student understands the meaning of supervision and evaluation for his/her own professional development and is motivated to work in nursing.

Supervised clincal practice in nurses appointments, home health care and service units 5 cr (3 weeks).

Assessment Criteria

The student
- Is familiar with the organization of elderly care and the responsibilities of a head nurse
- understands the importance of multiprofessional team work
- is able to plan and develop gerontologic nursing
- performs clinical procedures and rehabilitation methods individually for each patient
- works ethically in the care relations and in the work community
- understands the meaning of supervision and evaluation for his/her own professional development
Fail:
The student
- does not understand the organization of elderly care, the responsibilities of a head nurse or the importance of multiprofessional team work
- can’t plan or develop gerontologic nursing
- is not able to perform clinical procedures or rehabilitation methods individually for each patient
- does not follow the principles of professional secrecy or the rules and regulations of the organisation
- endangers patient safety
- does not understand the meaning of guidance and supervision for his/her own professional development
