Learning Outcomes

The student is able to recognize the philosophical and ethical basis for research and development work. The student is able to write a well-grounded research plan/development work plan. The student is able to use common data collection methods and explain his/her choices. The student is able to implement a development project and select suitable working methods.

Contents

The relationship between knowledge, science and research/development work. Philosophical approaches to research. Research ethics. Information retrieval and processing. Forming of the theoretical framework of an empirical study/development work. Writing of a research plan/development work plan. Data collection methods. Implementation of a project and working methods.

Mode of Delivery / Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

Lectures 24 h, seminars 20 h, group supervision 3 h, examination 2h.

Assessment Criteria

Grade 5: The student is able to
- describe the contents of the most central philosophical and ethical concepts associated with research and development work, the contents of the most usual methods of data collection and phases of development project, and to apply and explain them in a new context
- describe the content of a research plan or a development work plan, and apply and explain it in some topic

Grade 3: The student is able to
- describe the contents of the most central philosophical and ethical concepts associated with research and development work, the contents of the most usual methods of data collection and phases of development project, but is not able to implement them in a new context
- describe principally the content of a research plan or a development work plan, and implement it in some topic

Grade 1: The student is able to
- name philosophical and ethical concepts associated with research and development work, most usual methods of data collection and phases of development project, but is not able to implement them in a new context
- name the content domains of research plan or development work plan, but is not able to describe and implement them further

Assessment Methods

Examination 50%. Numeric grading 0-5.
Seminar work 50%. Numeric grading 0-5.
