Learning Outcomes

After the course you know how to tell about your education in English, and how to draw up an appropriate job application and CV. You can present a company in the field of electrical engineering and describe electro-technical products, and write efficient and appropriate emails. You have practised common speaking situation in working life, such as meetings, negotiations, giving presentations, and job interviews.
You understand texts and know the basic vocabulary in your field of study. You are also familiar with the principles of technical documentation and scientific writing.

135 hours, of which 46 hours contact teaching.

Contents

Telling about your education, company presentation, product description, job application, working life speaking situations (telephoning, job, giving a presentation, meetings and negotitions), writing appropriate emails, texts and vocabulary in electrical engineering and automation technology, principles of technical/scientific writing.

Internationality

The course trains to cope in English in international situations of working life.

Individual and group workshops, vocabulary exercises, exercises in working life speaking situations

Assessment Criteria

Grades 1-2 The student knows some vocabulary of the course contents and can make simple sentences on a passable level, and understands a gist of the texts in the field. The student can express themself narrowly in speaking situations.

Grades 3-4 The student knows the vocabulary of the course contents well and can produce good and understandable text, with some mistakes. In speaking situations, the student performs well, but there is room for improvement for example in pronunciation and structures.

Grade 5 The student knows the vocabulary of the course contents excellently and can produce very good and appropriate text related to the course contents. The student produces English effortlessly and almost flawlessly.

Assessment Methods

Microexams, continuous assessment, workshops; speaking exam. Active participation in contact lessons gives bonus points.
