Learning Outcomes

Having completed the course, the student is able to design controlled entities in modern distributed energy production and understand the principles of spelicialised electric drives, such as controlling and adjusting of paper machines. The student has preparedness to make tunings in the cobtril system that improve the operation of controlled electric drives and make changes in the control. The student know how to use analysis tools for observing the system. The student can also compile a functioning control entity for a purpose using automation standard blocks and knows how to utilise a digital twin for testing. The student is also able to create a digital twin.

Student's Workload

135 hours, of which laboratory assignments 4 x 4 hours, in addition to lectures. Two hours reserved for the exam.

Prerequisites / Recommended Optional Courses

Safety at Work and Electrical Work Safety, MATLAB and Simulink, Basics of Data Transmission, Control of Motor Drives

Contents

Various control levels in control automation; comparison of control hierarchy in sectional drive applications used in distributed energy production and in industry. Defining the best applicable reference chain for the above mentioned applications, starting from efficient combining power electronics application and automation interface. Considering the requirements of different solutions, such as principles of grid segments. control in distributed energy production and the principles of torque, speed, load distribution and tension control in sectional drives. Most typical special cases, such as island mode in energy production and black start and acceleration and braking in sectional drives, as well principals of mechanical safety and its impact on hardware and project activities. Utilisation of digital twins in software development and testing, an assignment. Collection of measurement data and their analysis, utilisation of data collection software and their analysis tools. Laboratory assignments deal with the control of power, torque and rotation speed in electric drives and their tuning as well as adopting mechanical safety automation in AC drives.
