Learning Outcomes
The student becomes familiar with written and oral communication in their professional field.

- communicate in Swedish in basic customer service situations within their field and recognize the specific features of communication in their profession.
- discuss and write about professional topics in Swedish and acquire in-depth knowledge in a chosen area of expertise.

The student understands that language learning is a continuous process and that progress is possible regardless of their starting level. The most important factors are personal engagement, the willingness to learn, and making the best effort to improve.

Assessment Criteria
Proficiency Level 5
The student is proficient and manages well in various workplace communication situations. They have a strong command of grammatical structures and use them in a versatile manner. The student applies industry-specific vocabulary and expressions idiomatically and extensively. Their attitude toward language learning is positive, and they are continuously motivated to improve their language skills.
Proficiency Level 3
The student is moderately proficient and manages fairly well in common, predictable workplace communication situations. They use grammatical structures and phrases in a reasonably idiomatic way. The student applies the industry-specific vocabulary learned during the course. Their attitude toward language learning is positive.
Proficiency Level 1
The student can participate in the most common predictable workplace communication situations using simple structures and individual words. They work on developing their industry-specific vocabulary during the course. Their attitude toward language learning is positive.
Assessment Methods
Active participation, approved oral and written exercises, written assessment, grading scale 0–5.
Further Information
For the second national language, the degree certificate will include a verbal grade (good/satisfactory) in accordance with the Government Decree on the Demonstration of Finnish and Swedish Language Proficiency in State Administration (481/2003). Written and oral language proficiency are assessed separately. According to national guidelines, grades 1-3 at the university of applied sciences correspond to the verbal grade "satisfactory" in the language proficiency assessment required by the Language Proficiency Act (424/2003), while grades 4-5 correspond to the verbal grade "good." The notation on the degree certificate replaces a separate language certificate.
After the course, a verbal grade for written language proficiency will be recorded.
