Learning Outcomes

The goal is to develop professional language skills. The student gets acquainted with written and oral communication of his/her field of studies. The student manages with the basic client situations of the field and is aware of the special characteristics of communication in the field. He is able to discuss professional issues and acquire advanced information in the chosen professional area. He is able to use Swedish when acquiring information during the studies and in working life. The student also has a positive attitude towards learning languages.

Altogether: 54 h. Scheduled: 18 h. Virtual studies: 16 h. Independent study: 20 h.
The assesment of student's own learning 1 h is included in contact lessons.

Prerequisites / Recommended Optional Courses

Preparing Swedish and/or upper secondary studies in Swedish.

Contents

Texts from the student´s own field of studies, communication situations in working life, oral and written exercises, writing exercises, content is integrated into own field of studies.

The student develops her/his ability to work in different health care/social services companies and service providers in the area.

The student develops her/his skills to work in multicultural work communities and with different clients

Mode of Delivery / Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

Contact hours, guided assignments, independent assignments, exams. Communicative language learning, pair and group work, active participation, learning by writing and speaking, independent study.

Assessment Criteria

Grade 5
The student manages well the different situations of working life that require language use, masters the structures well and uses them diversely. The student uses idiomatically and extensively the vocabulary and expressions of his own branch. The attitude towards language learning is positive.
The student wants to develop his language skills consistently

Grade 3
The student manages tolerably the most ordinary foreseeable situations of working life that require language use and uses structures and phrases somewhat idiomatically in his communication. The student develops his control of the vocabulary of his own branch during the course. The attitude towards language learning is positive.

Grade 1
The student is able to participate in the most ordinary foreseeable situations of working life that require language use and uses simple structures and single words in his communication. The student develops his control of the vocabulary of his own branch during the course. The attitude towards language learning is positive.

Assessment Methods

Numeric evaluation, active participation, written exam, introduction of discussion/oral presentation, peer evaluation. Numeric evaluation 1-5. The grade of written skills in the final report according to the state administration’s language exam: satisfactory (1-3) or good (4-5).
