Learning Outcomes

The student gets acquainted with university studies and with Vaasa University of Applied Sciences as a studying environment. The student familiarizes and socializes with his own student group and with other students studying for Bachelors of social services. The student perceives the social services branch, the occupation of a bachelor of social services and the job opportunities of the branch. The student grasps the structure of his own training programme and the demands for taking the degree. The student learns how to construct his own curriculum and learns how to follow it. The student knows how to independently use a computer, basic programmes and the internet as a tool for studying and in information retrieval.

Student's Workload

Amount of work altogether 81 h, of which 39 h of contact hours and 42 h of independent study.
The assesment of student's own learning 1 h is included in contact lessons.

Contents

Vaasa University of Applied Sciences as a studying environment. Various study methods. Support resources: study bureau, student counselling, study grants, health care, physical exercise services, international affairs, student association activity. Practical training. Library and information retrieval services. Studying for a Bachelor of social services. Occupational identity and occupational growth. Preliminary evaluation and development discussion. Basic principles of operating systems and network in the university of applied sciences. Basics of e-mail, Moodle, Word and Excel usage.

Mode of Delivery / Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

Lectures, study visits, exercises, expedition, personal discussions with the group instructor (preliminary evaluation and development discussion).

Assessment Criteria

Passing grade requires active participation in contact hours, passing the data processing part acceptably and participation in the preliminary interview.

Active participation, passing the exercises and given assignments. Evaluation with passed/accepted principle.
