Learning Outcomes

The student knows how to analyze the relations between society, culture, community and individual welfare and health. The student examines the interaction between different communities and human actions. The student knows how to support the client and client groups to improve and maintain independent welfare and health and knows how to articulate voluntary work into a resource in the official service network. The student develops his team work skills.

Student's Workload

Altogether 78 h, of which 29 h lectures and exercises, 10 h project work, 39 h independent study. The assesment of student's own learning 1 h is included in contact lessons.

Multicultural client work, Occupational growth in client work.

Contents

Socio-cultural know-how and motivation, communal work, community work, social networks, voluntary work. Interaction between human actions and cultural, social and physical environment. Culture as a creator for welfare.

Mode of Delivery / Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

Lectures, exercises, guided communal project, independent study.

Assessment Criteria

Grades 1-2: The student is familiar with the working methods and orientations of socio-cultural work and understands the effect of social networks and environment to a person’s wellbeing. The student participates in the realization of the communal project.
Grades 3-4: The student knows how to apply the methods of socio-cultural work to substantiate the resources of the society and social involution. The student knows how to connect voluntary work as a resource for work in social services.
Grade 5: The student knows how to evaluate and develop the conventions and methods of socio-cultural work to enhance the client’s and the community’s wellbeing. The student finds new opportunities in the connections of culture and social services work that substantiates wellbeing.
