Learning Outcomes
The student getting familiar with the function of Vaasa Polytechnic, the learning environment and learning community as well as the professional image of his/her own branch. The student will learn the structure of his/her degree programme and its requirement and draws up his/her own study plan. The student will learn to use various information services. The student will commit to the studies, take responsibility for his/her work and learn to evaluate his/her work and achievements, and plan the studies with future working life in mind.
Contents
Familiarisation with the polytechnic, its degree programmes and specialisation lines. The nature and objective of polytechnic studies. Familiarisation with ones own degree programme specialisation line and departments. Familiarisation with the resources offered by the study environment (libraries, tutor programmes, health care, student associations, the use of information services and the tools of information retrieval (libraries, information networks, data bases and bibliographies) techniques of computer-based information retrieval

- Student guide, IT basics, the polytechnic homepage and the material produced by the library.Other material according to teachers instructions.

Lectures, exercises, drawing up the study plan, guidance discussions based on the plan. Independent study.

Drawing up ones personal study plan, active participation in information seeking and exercises. Assessment pass/fail.
