Learning Outcomes

The student will understand the structural, functional and psychological changes related to ageing. The student knows the most common illnesses related to old age and learns about the treatments and examination methods. The student will learn to help senior people to maintain their ability to act and be active. The student knows how to appreciate life history and experience of an aging person. The student learns how to implement and plan care and nursing that will maintain the ability to manage everyday routines and promote rehabilitation.

Contents

Gerontology and geriatrics as a branch of science with research methods.The structural, functional and psychological changes related to ageing. The most common illnesses related to old age treatments and examination methods. Encountering an elderly person and nursing him/her. Service systems and networks. Principles of nursing for elderly. Nursing of ill and demented elderly persons.
