Learning Outcomes

The student knows how to analyze drug politics and knows the central regulations, services and responsibilities related to drug use. The student receives an overview of the characteristics of a drug problem and knows the general operational models and guiding quarters of drug work. The student learns how to recognize drug abuse and addiction and understands the effects of addiction on the user and the user’s family.

Student's Workload

Altogether 81 h, of which 39 contact hours and 42 hours of independent study. The assesment of student's own learning 1 h is included in contact lessons.

Contents

Development of drug addiction and the effects of the addiction to the next of kin. Services, orientations and central principles of welfare services for drug abusers. Central methods of drug work, preventative drug work, law of welfare for drug abusers.

Lectures, study visit, book summary, group work.

Assessment Criteria

Grade 1-2: The student knows the most important principles of drug politics, the forms of working with drug related problems and understands the effects that drugs have on people.
Grade 3: The student knows how to apply his knowledge of welfare for drug abusers and drug addiction to client cases. The student knows how to use and apply in theory some method of drug work.
Grade 5: The student has an ability to perceive the significance and state of drug work in the society, knows how to interpret the effect of drug addiction to the client and to his next of kin and how to apply the learned information so that he in client situations can give reasons for different solutions.

Assessment Methods

Book summary, participation in group work and study visit and/or participation in a lecture by a visiting lecturer. Written assignment or exam.
