Learning Outcomes

After completing the course, the student will be able to efficiently search for legal information from various legal sources and services. The student will become familiar with good scientific practices in producing and researching legal texts. The student will gain an overall understanding of the legal system in both national and international contexts. The student will get acquainted with the operations of various local judicial institutions. The student will acquire the English language skills needed for tasks in legal administration and will be able to apply their language skills in various professional tasks in the field.

Student's Workload

In higher education, 1 credit corresponds to 27 hours of student work. For this course, that means 135 hours, which are divided into contact hours, exercises, and independent study.

Contents

In-depth understanding of the national legal system and the international context.
Familiarization with local courts and authorities.
Efficient and evidence-based legal information retrieval and analysis.
Various services and software for legal information management.
Good scientific practices in producing legal and study-related texts.
Legal English: the judicial system in Finland and other countries, finding and reading legal texts and vocabulary in English.
The legal information retrieval component is worth 2 credits, and the Legal English component is worth 3 credits.
