Learning Outcomes

The student understands the objectives and procedures related to financial accounting in a business and professional setting, knows the fundamental principles of financial accounting, closing of the accounts and Finnish value added taxation. The student develops practical skills for maintaining accounting records by using accounting software. The student can read and analyze annual statements issued by small companies. The student understands the principles of economic thinking and is able to carry out profitability calculations and prepare budgets to support decision making. The introduction to Finnish legislation will give the student a basic knowledge of the Labour laws. The student gets acquainted with the partners in connection with employment contract and understands the obligations in relation to it. The course will also familiarise the student with the collective agreements. The student should further understand the importance of payroll administration as part of the operations of the business entity and be able to conduct tasks related to payroll administration by using information technology.
