Learning Outcomes

The aim of the course is to give the student the basic mathematical knowledge and skills necessary for engineering studies. The course starts from the very beginning. At the end of the course, the student will master the basics of algebra, geometry and trigonometry.

Student's Workload

The total workload of the course is 135 h, of which 45-60 h of classroom teaching marked in the timetable and the rest of it is student's independent work. Assessment of own learning 1 h.

Prerequisites / Recommended Optional Courses

The course does not require previous university level studies.

Contents

Numbers and operations, percentage calculations, powers and roots.Functions and solving equations. Basic geometry and trigonometry. Engineering field-spesific applications.

Mode of Delivery / Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

The main teaching format of the course is the lectures and the calculation exercises.

Assessment Criteria

Grade 1: The student knows the subjects of the course that are necessary for later studies and working life.

Grade 3: The student knows how to make good use of the subjects of the course.

Grade 5: The student can creatively apply the subjects of the course.
