Learning Outcomes

The student gets acquainted with potable water treatment as well as municipal wastewater treatment and treatment of effluents in some industries.

Student's Workload

The total amount of student´s work is 108 h, which contains 56 h of contact studies.
The assessment of student’s own learning 1 h is included in contact lessons.

Prerequisites / Recommended Optional Courses

Chemistry in Technology, Chemistry Laboratory Exercises, Water Laboratory Exercises, Water Chemistry, Introduction to Technical Mathematics
Water Laboratory Exercises is studied parallelly.

Contents

Raw- and treated water quality. The most essential unit processes and operations in water and wastewater treatment paying attention also to the related fundamental phenomena, e.g., the phenomena taking place at the solid–water interface. Typical process streams are studied in connection to excursions to waterworks and municipal waste water treatment plant.

Lectures, home work, excursions.

Assessment Criteria

Grade 1: The student knows those subjects of the course, which are necessary for the forthcoming studies and working life.

Grade 3: The student is well-abled to utilize the course contents.

Grade 5: The student is able to apply creatively the contents of the course.

Assessment Methods

Numeric assessment. Exam 80% and excursion reports 20%. It will be possible to improve the grade by active home work.
