Learning Outcomes

During the course, you will learn the grammatical basics and pronunciation of Finnish language. After the course, you can tell about yourself, your family and your hobbies. You will know how to inflect Finnish verbs in the present tense and nouns (partitive and genitive cases). You will know how to use everyday vocabulary and phrases. You will also learn about Finnish society and culture.

135 hours, of which 46 hours of contact teaching.

Most important every-day vocabulary and phrases, inflection of nouns and verbs in the present tense; Finnish culture and society.

Text exercises, various types of exercises for vocabulary and grammar; speaking exercises.

Assessment Criteria

Grades 1-2: The student knows the vocabulary content of the course on a passable level, can form very simple sentences in Finnish and can speak short elementary sentences in Finnish, but makes a lot of mistakes. There are mistakes in the inflection of verbs and nouns.

Grades 3-4: The student knows the vocabulary contents of the course on a good level, can write basic sentences in Finnish and speak basic sentences in Finnish, for example tell about themself, their education, family and hobbies, although makes some mistakes. The student can inflect nouns and verbs fairly well.

Grade 5:The students masters the vocabulary contents of the course on an excellent level, can write basic Finnish sentences and can speak basic sentences for example tell about themself, their education and family and hobbies, almost flawlessly. The student can inflect verbs and nouns very well.

Assessment Methods

Microexams (30%), oral exam (50%) , active participation in the contact lessons (20%).
