Learning Outcomes

The student understands that safety at work is an essential part of one's professional ethics. She realises the importance of safety and protection at work, and knows the methods which establishes and develops safe working environment. The student will obtain the Safety Card and the Emergency Help Card. The student will learn the safety regulations related with electricity-related works, and learns how to ensure safety at work in a laboratory environment, electricity-related works and while planning electricity-related works. She will also learn how to function correctly in case of an accident with electricity involved.

Student's Workload

54 h, containing 20 h of contact studies and 34 h of individual work. The assessment of student’s own learning 1 h is included in contact lessons.

Contents

The central regulations related with safety at work. How to take care of safety in a common working area. How to find out, assess and reduce work-related illnesses and hazards. General regulations and the central danger issues at the working environment, as well as the methods for preventing accidents. Preparing oneself for accidents, emergency help actions. Standard SFS 6002 Sähköturvallisuus. Electrical protection and protection classes of electrical devices, groud fault interruption, protection against hazards and danger caused by electricity, the central contents of standard SFS 6002, käyttötoimenpiteet ja toiminnan tarkistukset, työskentelykäytännöt. The general working rules and safety regulations for the electrical engineering laboratories of Technobothnia. First aid education according to standard SFS 6002. Actions at the site of an accident, how to make a brief study of a patient for first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, how to remove a foreign body from the respiratory tract, burns, bruisings and cuts, accidents with electricity. The first aid education contains both theory and practicing. At the end of the course, the student is given a safety card for working and for working with electrical appliances.

Pass / fail.

Assessment Methods

In order to pass the course, the students must take part in at least 75 % of the given lectures. Further, she must take part in the given first aid course and the introduction to the Technobothnia laboratory. A written examination on safety at work and on electrical safety, which is passed if the student collects at least 75 % of the maximum amount of points.
