The descriptions shown below are for the academic year: 2022-2023

Learning Outcomes

The student learns to rate a motor, based on the stresses caused by transient states and is introduced to the warm-up model of a motor and various protection and control devices. The student gets familiar with various ways of start, deceleration and speed control and the selection of a motor and the control of a motor with a frequency converter.

Student's Workload

Total work load of the course: 80 h
- of which scheduled studies: 44 h
- of which autonomous studies: 36 h
The assessment of student’s own learning 1 h is included in contact lessons.

Prerequisites / Recommended Optional Courses

Converter Technology, Electric Drives

Contents

Rating of the motor for short-term use and for start and deceleration. Warm- up model of a cage motor and protection using numeric protection relays. Principles and properties of intelligent motor feeder. Torque and current of a cage motor in start and deceleration and corresponding connections and selection of starter devices. Implementation and properties of speed control of a cage motor. Selection of a frequency converter and motor for speed control drives. In the laboratory sessions the motor control and protection methods dealt with during lectures are studied using state-of-the art equipment.
