Learning Outcomes

After the course, the student will know the quantities related to rotational motion, as well as their SI units. (S)he will understand the principles of rotational motion, and knows how to apply her/his knowledge to problems on rotating electrotechnical devices. In the associated laboratory exercises, the student will learn how to apply the theories of rotational motion to practical measurements.

Student's Workload

The total amount of student's work is 54 h, which contains 28 h of contact studies.

Contents

Rotational motion, kinematics of rotating rigid bodies, rotational energy and the moment of inertia, work and power of the torque, the basic equation of rotational motion, the reduction of a load to the axis of a motor, angular momentum, static equilibrium, gravitation and mathematical model of harmonic oscillations.

Mode of Delivery / Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

The relevant theories of physics, together with associated problems and applications, are studied on a course of lectures. In addition, the student will individually solve a number of given homework exercises. Students will also take part in laboratory measurements. The measurements are done in groups of 3 students. Mechanics 1 and mechanics 2 can be replaced with mechanics 4 cu

Assessment Criteria

Grade 5: The student is able to apply creatively the contents of the course.

Grade 3: The student is well-abled to utilize the course contents.

Grade 1: The student knows those subjects of the course, which are necessary for the forthcoming studies and working life.

Assessment Methods

The assessment is based on an examination (90%), homework exercises and laboratory work (10%). A student must solve at least 25 % of the given homework exercises, and (s)he must take part in all the associated experiments in the laboratory of Physics.
