Learning Outcomes

After the course, the student konws how to use both VAMK's and UVA's information systems and learning platforms, she is able to utilize the guiding services of the institutions, and she can use data aquisition tools of the universities. The student is able to efficiently produce stylish reports and presentations with the available software tools, she can describe the goals of her degree programme, and she knows her professional image. She is familiar with the need of the local labour market, and she understands the possibilities to work in an international business environment. Further, the student is able to work in the studying community with the students and the staff of VAMK, creating team spirit and being responsible for her own studies.

Student's Workload

81 h, which contains 42 h of scheduled contact studies.
The assessment of student’s own learning 1 h is included in contact lessons.

Contents

The course has three parts:
1. Student councelling: One's own degree programme, the possible choises, individual learning plan, the professional image, career and work market, EnergyVaasa, studying environment and support, student union, relevant members of the staff, freshman interview, development discussion, practical training, international exchange.
2. Data aquisition: libarary services, online material.
3. Use of computer:
3.1. Text editing: How to write a report with a text-editing software (Word) - basic functions, layout, how to embedd pictures and graphs to a report, styles and references, EquationEditor and other activities, which help one with writing a report.
3.2. Spreadsheet: How to document experimental data with a spreadheet software (Excel) - basic functions, layout, how to produce different kinds of graphs, other activities, which help to make a report.
3.3. Presentation graphics: How to modify pictures with a suitable software, PowerPoint, presentations, effects.
