Learning Outcomes
The student knows the fundamentals of structure of soil and bedrock, groundwater deposits and soil mechanics. The student can read ground survey documents and soil and bedrock data in plans. The student can utilise material in the field in design and when choosing work methods.
To understand soil and groundwater protection as well as improvement of student's problem-solving abilities in case of soil remediation and use of industrial by-products

Contents
Soil types, properties of soil types and study methods. Geotechnical drillings, taking soil samples and laboratory tests. Soil maps, ground survey documents, survey markings, drawings and ground survey reports.
Yleisimmät maaperää ja pohjavettä pilaavat aineet ja toiminnot. Pilaantuneiden alueiden kartoitus- ja tutkimusmenetelmät. Riskikartoitukset. Kunnostusprojektin vaiheet ja menetelmät sekä lainsäädäntö, luvat ja viranomaisyhteydet. Kaatopaikan sekä muut maaperän ja pohjaveden suojeluun tarkoitetut ympäristörakenteet. Teollisuuden sivutuotteiden hyödyntäminen infrarakentamisessa.
Typical soil and groundwater pollutants, their sources, propagation and effects as well as risk assessment. Effect of permeability on pollutant transportation. Investigation and remediation of polluted soil. Environmental protection structures and landfill structures. Use of waste and industrial by-products in infrastructures.
